Career Breaks

Many engineers take a career break at some stage during their working lives often for parenting reasons or to travel overseas. IPENZ members can apply for membership deferral one time only for a maximum of two years. They must pay in advance a deferral fee ($30 per year) but will incur no further membership fees. Wherever possible deferred members should attempt to keep in touch with the engineering profession so that they will be able to meet continuing competency standards when they return to the engineering workforce. IPENZ facilitates this continuing connection with the engineering profession through the delivery of the weekly ezine to IPENZ deferred members and access to Branch events.
