Get Alongside a Careers Advisor

Launched in December 2006, the Get Alongside campaign is an opportunity for IPENZ members to become a resource for local schools, by making themselves available to a careers advisor or teacher.

By offering to answer questions on careers in engineering, providing advice on work experience and informing careers advisors and teachers of the resources offered by IPENZ, members can make an enormous difference to the understanding students have of the possibilities open to them in engineering.

The involvement of an IPENZ member can be tailored to the capabilities and time constraints of each person. Some may be happy to offer to give presentations to a group of students, for example, while others may prefer to answer specific questions on an “as and when” basis.  For this reason, the time commitment is minimal.

If you are interested in ensuring that students are aware of the opportunities of a career in engineering, and that the industry continues to be rejuvenated by bright young people, then consider becoming involved.

IPENZ can provide a support pack including printed materials for students and examples of ways in which other engineers have promoted careers in schools.
